ABSTRATORIAL
Louie Anthony — Primal Chic Modernist Style
2024
ABSTRATORIAL introduces Louie Anthony’s Primal Chic Modernist style: raw instinct cut with old-world skill, modernist clarity, and the sensual nerve of a room after midnight. Across three decades as a successful modern art painter, photographer, strategist, and author, Anthony has trained the eye to think and the body to listen. Architecture coils like bone, graffiti behaves like couture, and shadow carries rhythm from dozens of beloved musical genres — jazz, soul, punk, classical, hip-hop, house, gospel, blues, ambient, and the beautiful trouble in between.

THE PRIMAL FIELD
To make intelligence tactile: pressure, hush, glare, grain, rhythm, fabric, metal, and the delicious friction between refined taste and the thing that refuses to behave.
The opening spiral is both architecture and anatomy. Its repeating curves sweep inward like a rib cage, a shell, or a thought gathering speed. Anthony strips the structure to black, white, and silver so scale becomes secondary to rhythm; the building is no longer a place, but a physical sensation — clean, muscular, almost tidal.
The graffiti diptych shifts the tempo from disciplined modernism to street-born electricity. In color, blue, acid green, red, yellow, and aerosol haze crowd the frame with appetite. In monochrome, the same marks turn forensic: drips, scratches, scars, and improvised gestures become a secret alphabet. This is Primal Chic — energy with posture, instinct with tailoring.
THE INTELLIGENT NERVE

Graffiti in motion: a room remembered by the body
Anthony photographs from inside the sensation. He tilts, crops, doubles, and lets motion bruise the image until atmosphere becomes the subject. His high IQ gives the frame structure; his high EQ gives it breath. The camera is not a neutral witness here — it is a participant with excellent instincts and slightly dangerous manners.
The early frames move between control and surrender. Hard architectural arcs establish a disciplined visual grammar; graffiti contaminates that order with color, gesture, and velocity. What appears spontaneous is tuned with a painter’s ear: diagonals pull the eye, interruptions create syncopation, and negative space arrives just before the composition gets too polite.
MATERIALS AFTER MIDNIGHT
The method is instinct sharpened by thirty years of looking. Anthony respects old-world skill and materials because they remember what speed forgets — cloth, pigment, paper, glass, metal, grain, light, and the patient intelligence of the hand.
The nocturnal triptych enters a dark interior where screens float like electric portals. Saturated blues, violet city-light, red EXIT signs, chandeliers, mirrored planes, and reflected bodies become a strange secular altar. Luxury, warning, and spectacle occupy the same breath. Anthony is documenting the room while the room appears to document him.

Primal Chic Modernism lets elegance keep its pulse. It is polish with a scar, refinement with bass, discipline with appetite. The image should carry thought, scent, tempo, and touch — clear in structure, primal in charge.
PUISSANCE CRÉATRICE
The closing sequence softens the subject matter without lowering the voltage. Flowers, glass, neon, and reflection become instruments in a study of appetite, intimacy, and urban theater — the kind of modernism that knows the value of a tailored suit and a dirty bass line.
Anthony’s book Puissance Créatrice: Clear Abstract Thinking gathers thirty years of fine art, poetry, and essay into a personal archive of perception. That same spirit lives here: a black-and-white still life becomes architectural; neon becomes invitation and refusal; reflection dissolves certainty into wet glass, low light, and memory. The work is intelligent, sensual, and just witty enough to know when it is being watched.

THREE DECADES OF VOLTAGE
ABSTRATORIAL does not ask to be decoded from a safe distance. It pulls the viewer into its tempo — first through formal beauty, then through texture, ambiguity, and a sly flash of danger.
Curatorial note
Across the sequence, Anthony turns unrelated spaces into a coherent sensory world. Spiral architecture, painted steel, digital screens, flowers, neon, and glass all speak the same visual language: disciplined contrast charged by instinct.
The project’s intelligence lies in its refusal to separate elegance from grit. Color behaves emotionally; monochrome behaves physically. Repetition creates rhythm, blur becomes memory, and reflections make the viewer conscious of looking. ABSTRATORIAL leaves no tidy moral — only a sharpened awareness, a little swagger, and the urge to look twice.
